  • George Wesley King, Coal Grove, Ohio
    • 1 May 2004, Carolyn Higgins, the granddaughter of George W. King tells us,
      "I believe George Wesley King was born on 11 May 1873 (possibly in Kentucky as his father served in a Kentucky Civil War unit). He worked at the Yellow Poplar Mill in Coal Grove, Ohio and later attended National Normal University. After this training he was a teacher in the Ohio area for 11 years and also served as a Teacher's Examiner. He went on to attend Medical School in Cincinnati and graduated in 1910. He began his practice in Millersport, Ohio and a couple years later moved back to South Point/Coal Grove area. He also gave physicals to the soldiers during WWI. George had 7 children. His son, Charles, (Carolyn's father) who passed away in March of 2005 was the last surviving child.
    • The photo at left is cropped from the 21 July 1899 group photo titled Mrs. Simpson's Boarding Club.
      George was on the N.N.U. baseball team and is included in the team picture.

    • Born in West Milton, Ohio, Alberta Kinsey where spent 10 years teaching art at the National Normal School from 1906-1916 when the school closed. She taught briefly at Wilmington College before moving to New Orleans to pursue her art career. See article by Katherine Lollar Rowland for more about her career, "Renowned Artist Albert Kinsey "

  • Prof. Oliver Perry Kinsey (1849-1931)
    • A detailed biographical Sketch provided by Dorothy J. Carter is on file at the Warren County Genealogical Society library which provides the following:
      Oliver Perry Kinsey was born in Freeport, Harrison County, Ohio in 1849.  He came to Lebanon to attend NNU in 1868 and remained as a student and teacher for 12 years.  He majored in literature and finished the Commercial Course.  He first served as janitor, became a teacher, earned his A. B. and A. M. degrees, and became dean of various departments.  While at NNU he met Sarah Porter (who was also an NNU graduate and teacher) whom he married on 26 Uag 1876.  While at NNU he was a fellow student and fellow teacher with Henry Baker Brown who founded the Northern Indiana Normal School (later Valparaiso University).  Kinsey accepted a half interest in the school in 1880  where he and his wife remained until his retirement in 1919.
