Warren County in the War.

We commence to-day a series of articles under the above title.
Warren County played a grand and glorious part in the war for the Union, but where is the history that records the deeds of her noble people in that stupendous struggle?
At home and in the file her citizens performed their full share to save the Union, but where is the narrative of their patriotism preserved?
The Warren County History, written a few years ago, contains only a few scant pages relating to Warren County in the war of 1861.
It has long been the opinion of the Gazette that the history of this county at that time ought to be written out an preserved. This should have been done before now. We shall undertake, in this series of articles, to gather up matters of unwritten history before the actors in that great drama all die and leave untold the things that should be saved forever.
Already me are forgetting. We have been surprised, while trying to prepare a sketch of the first war meeting in Lebanon, to find how indistinct are its proceedings and incidents in the minds of those who were present.
In this work we ask for the assistance of all who believe that this is a labor that ought to be done.
We desire to make at least one more article on the first war meeting in Lebanon. Will not some who were present sharpen their recollections and help us to give some further details of a demonstration that ought to be put down in all it grand scope and particulars?
We shall be glad, in this connection, to have descriptions of meeting held at the beginning of the war in other parts of Warren County. Communications of this nature from any source will be highly acceptable.
But this will be but the beginning of what we contemplate in this series of articles.
There are brave deeds without number, sacrifices uncounted, incidents by the ten thousand, lives now almost nameless and forgotten - lives crowded with daring and doing - that ought to be snatched from the closing portals of oblivion before it is everlastingly too late.
We appeal to the old soldiers, and to their relatives and friends, and to the people of Warren county generally, to help us in this work.
