Wilkerson Cemetery aka Hurrell, Murrell and Spring Hill Cemetery adjacent to 8966 Wilmington Road Washington Township, Warren County, Ohio |
This small farm cemetery is located on a 0.3 acre parcel of land on the north side of Wilmington Road east of Ward Koebel Road. The cemetery was deeded to the Trustees of the Wilkerson Grave Yard (Paul Vandervort, George F. Longstreth & William Settlemyre) by James Wilkerson (1797-1876) and his 2nd wife, Mahala Wilkerson (1813-1879) on 27 Jul 1854. His 1st wife was Jane Wilkerson (1797-1841). Based on past gravestone readings, we know of at least
82 burials in the cemetery dating from 1811 through 1903 including the
family patriarch, James Wilkerson
(1758-1834) who was a Revolutionary
War veteran. Warren County Genealogical Society volunteer, Dana Palmer, found and photographed the stones for 67 of the burials in this cemetery on 3 Nov 2009. At that time, a lot of the stones were on the ground, broken with some stacked atop of each other. There was a pile of fresh dirt near/on the cemetery from new home construction on adjacent properties. Dana was not able to unstack the stones to photograph the others in the piles. If you have any older photos of stones that Dana was not able to locate, please consider sharing them with us. |
