L. J. S. S. [no other markings]

on 14 Feb 2006, Richard Kinkead writes,
"I believe that the "mystery" stone at Fellowship marked LJSS is that of Jerusha D. Kinkead, misspelled Gerusha in the Warren Warren County Cemetery Records Volume 3. I believe this for the following two reasons:

  1. The stone's position between the clearly-marked stone of her brother, John Townsend Kinkead, and the obelisk of her grandparents, Nicholas and Rhoda Scott
  2. The letter "J" in the inscription, which may well stand for "Jesus," but may also stand for "Jerusha."

These two children's parents, Robert Willis Kinkead and Rebecca Foster Scott, went west in 1868 to join Rebecca's sisters, Abiah Scott Armstrong and Sarah Scott Melville, in Chariton, Lucas County, Iowa, where they are buried. Their sixth child, Florence Scott Kinkead, died in infancy as well, and is buried with her parents in Chariton. The three children who lived were Katherine, Sarah Elizabeth and Robert L., my ggf. Much of this is detailed in the SCOTT book I placed on the Warren County Genealogical Society shelf."
