ROBERT B. CORWIN, CLERK,

Robert B. Corwin, fourth son of Jesse B. Corwin, was born near Lebanon, Ohio, July 4, 1842. He attended a common school until fifteen years old, then a few terms at the Normal School. He united with the East Baptist Church in 1860. Comrade Corwin volunteered as a private, in July, 1863, in the darkest days of the Rebellion, with no bounty promised or draft threatening, and served until the close of the war. His army life was free from reproach. He married Miss Sallie Baker, in 1876, who died in 1889, leaving three small children, R. Gilbert, now a lawyer in Dayton, Ohio, Howard F., a soldier in the Philippines, and Lyda M., at his home in Lebanon. Mr. Corwin was a hardward merchant for several years and has been a dealer in sewing machines from 1876, continously to the present. A considerable portion of his time is devoted to insurance and to the securing of pensions. He was elected Clerk of Lebanon and of Turtlecreek Township in 1890, and re-elected his own successor ever since to thes offices. P.D.H.
