New Hope Cemetery platted as Cemetery #71 by the WPA Veteran Graves Registration Project. The plat only lists one Civil War Soldier, David Whitacre but no gravestone is now found and the details of his service has not been confirmed. "Civil War Soldiers Buried in Warren County, Ohio" by Sue Frary lists him as a veteran of the 17th OVI. The Roster for the 17th OVI does contain a David S. Whitacre who served in Co E of the 17th OVI, was Killed at Resaca, Georgia on 14 May 1864 and buried at Chattanooga, Tennessee National Cemetery. He was not found in the US Dept of Veteran Affairs, Nationwide Gravesite Locator and perhaps he was "brought home" Other gravestones for Civil War soldiers note in the cemetery are for David Watkins & John Nelson E. Whitacre |
