      He completed tow tours in Vietnam. His awards included eight Air Medals, an Army Commendation Medal for heroism, a Bronze Star and two Meritorious Service medals. He served in Germany and was given two Legion of Merit Awards. . . ."

      "LEBANON, OHIO (AP) - PFC. David McConnaughey, 22, who started making a name for himself as a harness race driver before joining the Army, has been killed in Vietnam.
      Mason McConnaughey, who races trotters and pacers, said he was notified Thursday his son died when he was hit in the back by small arms fire. The notification did not give the date and place of the battle.
      David was a graduate of Hillsboro High School and first drove a pacer at the age of 15.
      Since 1960, he drove his father's horses on various Ohio tracks and finished in the money 12 times in 21 starts. He entered the Army in May, 1965, and was sent to Veitnam in October.
      The McConnaugheys have four sons. The family lives at Hillsboro during the winter, but moves to a trailer near the Warren County Fair Grounds when the harness racing season approaches."

      "The Theodore "Bud" Middleton family, 206 Short St., Mason, received word July 17 that their son, Teddy "Ted" Eugene Middleton, 19, had been killed in action.
      Ted enlisted in the U.S.Army a year ago and had been in Vietnam seven months and had just received corporal rank. He was due for a rest leave in two weeks. Young Middleton is the second Mason Fataility in the Vietnam conflict. He was on patrol with his unit when he was killed by a bobby trap July 15. He was in an air mobile division of the infantry.
      A well known youth throughout Warren County as well as in his local community of Mason. Middleton was a graduate of William Mason High School in the Class of 1967. He was an active athlete, participating in basketball and cross-country. He was Past Master Councilor of Lebanon Chapter of DeMolay and had the R.D. Degree and Chevalier Degree in DeMolay, the highest international award a DeMolay can receive. He was also a member of the Mason United Methodist Church.
      Middleton was employed by the Mason Lumber and Coal Company prior to his enlistment. Bud Middleton, father of the deceased, recently retired from the lumber compay of which he was a stock holder and employe of 27 years. His brothers, Robert and Richard, are co-owners of Middleton Brothers General Contracting and Heating at Mason. Robert is also president of the Mason Board of Education.
      Surviving are his parents, eight brothers and four sisters, Robert, Richard, Don and Bill of Mason, Jim of Mt. Healthy, Dale of Waynesville; Clara Adams of Cincinnati, Ida Mae Norton of Mason, Barbara Baker of Kennedy Heights; Tim, Tom and Beverly at home and his maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. George Boland of Mason.
      Full military funeral services will be held July 26 at 2 p.m. at the Mason Methodist Church. DeMolay services will be held Friday at 8 p.m. Visitation Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mason."
