      "The Defense Department has notified Mrs. Georgia Roberts of South Lebanon, that her son, Pfc. Douglas States, 19, serving with the Marine Corps, was killed in Korea on November 30.
      Pfc. States enlisted in the Marine Corps when 16 years of age and went to Japan in August, later he was transferred to Korea. He was serving with the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Division.
      A picture of Pfc. States appeard recently in Life magazine showing a group of Marines in Korea.
      The telegram received by MRs. Roberts was sent by C. G. Cates, General, USMC."

      "... Pvt. Wilbur Sweney, 22, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sweney, of Lebanon, Route 2, who had been wounded in action in Korea, died January 16, in a hospital in Japan. Pvt. Sweney had been in service only three months and three days, his family reports. He is the third Warren countian to die in the Korean conflict. He left Lebanon October 13 for induction.
      "Besides his parents, Pvt. Sweney is survived by two brothers, Orville, of Lebanon, and Floyd of Dayton; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Pearl Hill of Franklin and a great-grandmother, Mrs. Emma Simpkins, also of Franklin."
    • "Victim of Korean Campaign Buried; Military Rites for Pvt. Wilbur Sweney Last Wednesday" unnamed paper dated 15 Mar 1951
      "Services for Pvt. Wilbur E. Sweney, 22, who died in Japan in January from wounds received in Korea were conducted last Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. in the Reformed Church in Springboro. The Rev. Jerome Shuls was in charge and burial was in the Springboro Cemetery.
      "Private Sweney is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Howard E. Sweney, of the Lebanon-Springboro Road, two brothers, Orville of Lebanon and Floyd of Dayton; his maternal grandmother Mrs. Pearl Hill of Franklin and his maternal great-grandmother Mrs. Emma Simkins, also of Franklin.
      "He entered the service last October and was sent overseas in November. He arrived in Japan in December and then sent to Korea and injured in January. He had previously served for early a year in the armed forces.
      He was a member of the American Motorcycle Club of Middletown. He attended the Weaver Trade School in Dayton and was employed as a polisher at the Frigidaire."
