Eliza Whitelaw

Mrs. Eliza Whitelaw, consort of Mr. Wm. Whitelaw, died Aug. 1st, inst., with debility and general prostration of the system. She was born on the 9th of March, 1805, in Cloncorn, Clones Minaghan [sic] Co., Ireland, of religious parents.

Her father, James Jackson, has been a Class Leader in the Wesleyan Methodist Society for upwards of 45 years, and one of the most devoted and pious Protestants in the North of Ireland. His companion was a pious member of the same Society until she died on the 18th of June, 1824, happy in the Lord, when the subject of this memoir was in her 19th year. Two years after the death of her mother, she was married to Mr. William Whitelaw of Selten Lodge, Seitrim Co., Ireland.

They emigrated to this country on the 1st day of December, 1848, landed at New Orleans and settled in the City of Cincinnati in the February following. Two years after, they moved to this place. Mrs. Whitelaw was a member of the Methodist Society from early youth and one of the most intelligent and religious ladies I have ever been acquainted with. She was devoted to her husband and children and her prayer to God continually was that they might be saved. Her way, like that of the just, grew brighter and brighter unto the perfect day; in her last days she was overwhelmed with the love and presence of God. She died in peace and without doubt and triumphantly entered the Kingdom of God. D.

Drake

DIED—On Tuesday evening, of Cholera, Horace Drake, an interesting son of the late Dr. Drake, aged about nine years.

Benford

DIED—On Thursday morning, Mrs. Rosanna Benford, wife of Mr. Thomas Benford. Her disease was a severe case of Cholera Morbus, which seized its victim about four o’clock yesterday morning and terminated fatally at ten. The deceased was a lady of many excellent qualities; a member of the Baptist Church in good standing; an affectionate wife and mother and a kind and accommodating neighbor. Her funeral will take place from the residence of Mr. Benford this morning (Friday) at nine o’clock.
