Rachel Stanton (1833/34 - 1901)

Death of Mrs. Stanton

After many weeks of weary suffering the angel of death called at a home on Seventh street and brought peace and rest to another mother.
Mrs. Ralph Stanton [sic - John H. Stanton], aged 67, passed away May 29, 1901, at 1:30 p.m., after being confined to her bed for nearly six months. The busy life of another woman who had lived for her children was closed in the final sleep, and once more the saddest of all messages, “Mother is dead.” was whispered among the family.
Mrs. Stanton had lived in Franklin and its vicinity all her life, having been born in Poasttown in 1834. She was first married to John Craig, and to this union three daughters, still living, were born. They are Mrs. H. P. Lane, Miss Harriet Craig and Mrs. Daniel Clark, of Oklahoma.
After Mr. Craig’s death she was united in marriage to John Stanton, to whom the sympathy of the community goes out in this loneliness which will shadow his remaining years. To Mr. and Mrs. Stanton were born three daughters and two sons, all of whom reside in Franklin and are Mrs. Wm. Squires, Mrs. Carl Blood, and Miss Bertha Stanton. The two sons, Edward and Clinton are well known as hard-working and industrious boys.
The funeral was held last Friday afternoon from the Christian Church and was conducted by Rev, Austin and Rev. Dawson. Burial in Woodhill.
