CATHARINE SMITH
Rests
From Life’s Labors

Friends met at the home at ten o’clock Sunday last and followed the remains of Catharine Smith to the Middle Run Baptist church where services were conducted by Elder J.C. Reed, of Blanchester, pastor of the church, who read the memoir published below, and preached an able and comforting discourse from the words of the scripture recorded in 1st, Corinthians, 15th, chapter and 51st, verse; “Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed.”

MEMOIR

Catherine James Smith was born March 9th, 1816, and died at her home in Greene county, O., January 14, 1898, aged 81 years, 10 months and 5 days.

She was married to Jackson Smith, Nov. 29th, 1838.

This union was blessed with 7 children six sons and one daughter named as follows: Jonathan, John, Frank, Anjalina, Nathan, Newton and James B.; all of whom are living except the daughter, Anjalina who died in 1872.

The descendants of the family who mourn on account of the departure of the deceased, are the above named sons, seventeen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

The subject of this memoir united with the Baptist church at Middle Run, June 17th, 1866, and continued a faithful, consistent member of the church, attending the services of the same as long as her health permitted.

She had been in declining health for several years and during the last six weeks was confined to her room and bed nearly all the time, gradually growing weaker until the end came.

She realized that she had lived her allotted time, and said to friends and loved ones who kindly cared for her in her last illness, that she was resigned and willing to go. She died peacefully, and with the assurance of saving faith in our blessed Savior.

As we are assembled together to pay the last tribute of respect to the deceased, we realize that in her death Society has lost a kind and true friend, the church a faithful and honored member, and the family a devoted and loving mother.
