OBITUARY

Samuel Sides, third son and fifth child of Samuel and Mary Rutter Sides, was born in Lancaster County, Pa., May 26, 1827, and departed this life May 26, 1911, aged 84 years.
In 1835 he came to Ohio with his family.
On October 5, 1854, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth R. Wharton who survives him. To this union were born 8 children of whom four survive, being H. Wilbur, G. Wallace, Mrs. Anna E. Smith and A. Lincoln Sides.
Mr. Sides was united with the Methodist Episcopal church on New Years Eve of 1849 at Springboro, Ohio. To this faith he adhered until death. He was also a member of the Masonic fraternity for a number of years. He took some part in public life having been a member of the Board of Education for a term of years.
Mr. Sides was a man of strong convictions, amiable, and a Christian. Fond of his home, his church, his lodge, his life was well spent in his beautiful country home near Waynesville.
The funeral of Mr. Sides took place at the house Monday morning at 10 o’clock and a large number of friends assembled there to pay the last tribute of respect to this honored man. Rev. H.W. Bailey officiated and the beautiful Masonic burial rite was used. A quartet of mixed voices sang two selections. Interment was made in Miami cemetery.

Samuel’s father and mother were born in 1799 and 1802 and died in 1854 and 1858, respectively. They were married December 22, 1820, and had the following children (not necessarily in order of birth) that are presently known:

Hannah, date of birth not known;
Jacob, date of birth not known;
Isaac, date of birth not known;
Mary Ann, born ca 1825;
Samuel, as above;
Catherine, date of birth unknown;
John R. (1830-1901) married Rebecca Jane Rhoades (1830-1913), in 1854, and lived near Waynesville;
Henry K. (1834-1915), married Chloe Zuriah Cornell (1843-1927), after 1888, and lived near Waynesville;
Amos B. (1839- ), married Prudence Haines (1841- ), in 1851m and lived near Centerville, Ohio;
Sarah (1842-1923), married Ner Haines (1837-1899) (brother of Prudence), and lived near Waynesville;
Martha Malissa (1845-1896), married Frances (Frank) W. Dinwiddie (1840-1897), and lived near Bellbrook, Ohio.
