In Memoriam.
Entered into rest, at Union Village, Warren County, Ohio. Mrs. Ada Harper Showalter, in the 64th year of her age, born at Butler, Pa., in 1842. Her mother brought her to the Union Village Shaker Society in 1847 where she resided for two years. After which her mother took her to Washington C. H., where she attended school. In 1859 she was united in marriage to Edward Showalter. The following year they moved to Waynesville, where her husband established a jewelry business. In 1874 they moved to Wyandott, Kansas, and soon after to Kansas City, Mo.
In 1896 she returned to Union Village and united with the Society of Shakers and continued a useful member until the time of her death; an irreparable loss to the Society, she being a woman of much executive ability and marked religious virtues. She had been in failing health for about three years. With her when love's last farewell was said, were her only daughter, Mrs. M. R. Reed, of Kansas City, Mo., and her only son, Corporal James C. Showalter, U. S. A. stationed at Fort Snelling, Minn.
Before her death she made the request that her remains be interred in the beautiful cemetery at Corwin, where her mother and a son had been laid away years ago. A shrine of love unto her reverenced as was the bible; a blessed fountain from whence flowed divine consolation and strength of spirit unto her.
On Sunday, February 25th, the funeral service was held at the cemetery
chapel and her remains followed to this family lot by a number of saddened
friends from Union Village, Lebanon
and Waynesville.
