Died,At the South Family, Union Village,
on Friday, April 13, Elnathan Pettit, in the seventy-third
year of his age. He was born in Frederick City, Maryland, in 1815, removed
to Cincinnati in 1835 and commenced work in the press room of the Cincinnati
Gazette Office, where he remained for many years. While in that office
he ran the first power printing press brought to the western states. He
was a man of great physical power and courage, and of much more than ordinary
capacity and intelligence, and was greatly esteemed by the brethren of
the Shaker community. He had been a
member of the Society for the last ten years. |
