Death of David Parkhurst. - On Sunday night, David Parkhurst, on of the most widely known and respected of the Shaker brotherhood of Union Village, died at his home at the South Family, in the eighty-fifth year of his age. Mr. Parkhurst has, for a long time past, been failing steadily. He had no particular disease but died of old age.

He was born in Pennsylvania on the twenty-sixth of March, 1801, and was the son of Samuel and Anna (Sutton) Parkhurst, the former of Pennsylvania and the latter of New Jersey, and both of English lineage. In 1814 his father, who was a Baptist, came to Warren County, where he joined the society of Shakers. In the following year he returned to Pennsylvania and brought back his family, amongst them David, who was the third child. The latter, therefore, grew up among and received all his education and training at the hands of the Shakers and he became one of their most prominent members. When he was but twenty-two years old, he was elected Deacon. In later life he was chosen Elder, which office he held at the time of his death. In 1864, he was appointed Legal Trustee and in this capacity, he became well and favorably acquainted in the county. His death makes a blank in the little community that will be hard to fill and he leaves behind him many warm friends both within and without his peculiar society to mourn his loss.
