John Wesley Newcomb (1834-1922
Obituary.
John W. Newcomb was born the 2nd day of January, 1834,
in Ridgeville, Warren County, Ohio; died the 15th day of January, 1922;
at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gustin, at Denver,
Ind; aged 88 years 13 days.
He was married to Cynthia Cole November 15th 1855. To
this union were born six children, as follows: Mrs. Sarah Ann
Decker of Springboro, Ohio; Mrs. Eliza Jane Gustin,
of Denver, Ind.; Harrison Scott Newcomb, of Franklin,
Ohio; Robert Edward Newcomb, deceased; John Cornelius
Newcomb of Wilbur Wright aviation field, in Ohio, and Mrs. Bertha
May Bunnell of Perrysburg, Ind. There are 20 grandchildren and
19 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
The past two years he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Lydia
Gustin, at Denver, Ind.
More than half a century ago he united with the Methodist Episcopal church
at Red Lion, Ohio, during the pastorate of Rev. L. G. Jacobs, about six
years ago he moved his membership to the Methodist church at Chili, Ind.,
and about a year ago he changed it to the M. E. church in Denver, Ind.
He served his country during the Civil
War, as a member of the 146th Ohio
National Guards; and was a member of the G. A. R. camp at Springfield,
Ohio. He was a brother beloved, always loyal to his country, his church
and his God.
The funeral service was held from the home of Harry Newcomb, Sr., Tuesday
afternoon, Rev. Parkin officiating, and interment made at Springboro.
