Carl W. Morgan Jr. (1922-1944)

KILLED in ACTION.
PFC Carl W. Morgan Jr.

The ninth Gold Star was added to the Franklin-Clearcreek World War II Honor roll last Friday as his parents were notified of the death of Pfc. Carl W. Morgan, Jr., 22-year-old Franklin youth who had previously been reported as seriously wounded in the French invasion. Ten Days earlier the family had been advised that he was wounded in action June 8, two days after D-Day, but no details were revealed. The War Department telegram last week stated that his death occurred June 8.
Pfc. Morgan is the first Franklin youth to have died in land fighting in the European Theatre Operations. He entered the service November 7, 1942, and following training in Florida, North Carolina and Virginia, left for overseas duty last October 7. In January of this year he volunteered for ranger service and is believed to have been with the Fifth Ranger Battalion at the time of the invasion.
He graduated from Franklin High School in May, 1941, and before entering the service was employed by Armco at Middletown. A sister, Miss Virginia Morgan, Middletown Hospital nurse, a younger brother, Pvt. Samuel Morgan, now stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind., and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl W. Morgan, of High Street, survive.
