Theodore McCurdy (1830 -- 1910) OBITUARY Theodore McCurdy was born near Deerfield this county, January 15, 1830. He came with his mother to this neighborhood when but a lad, and during the 80 years of his life he made his home in this vicinity. He passed quietly from this life at 7:00 p.m. July 26, 1910. And who has lived during a more eventful period in the world’s history than they who have been privileged to do so through the past 80 years; richly clothed as it has been with the events of human experience. Theodore, was one of nature’s plain, quiet unassuming men; gentle, honest, true, in any statement made by him nothing filled the place so well as the plain simple fact. His was a strong and sturdy nature; but during his sickness he felt his helplessness; causing him to more fully appreciate the kindness of his good brother and sister and family; for all of which he expressed a deep degree of gratitude. His life was greatly influenced by the precept and example of his mother. This seemed most a part of nature. One could not talk with him long but some reference would be made to mother; what mother said, or did, or thought. This is a notable characteristic of the family; a trait much to be admired in any one. In November 1873 he was married to Mrs. Elizabeth Dowdell Shaw; to this union two children were born – Rachel and Rebecca, both of whom are married. They with one brother, Jonathan and his family and family of his brother William. William having preceded him in death less than one brief week, survive to mourn this loss. Long may his memory live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. The funeral was held at the home of Jonathan McCurdy. The interment was at Springboro, Rev. W. A. Cooper officiating.
