MILITARY RITES FOR MORROW VET.
Rites At Vale Funeral Home Today for Pfc. Milton Marlatt
MORROW – Military services in charge of Morrow Post VFW No. 8202
will be held Thursday at 2 p. m. at Vale Funeral Home for Pfc.
Milton Marlatt, who was killed in action in Germany on Sept. 14, 1944.
Burial will be in Morrow
Cemetery.
A graduate of Morrow high school in 1931, he entered the service November
10, 1942 and after three weeks of training at Camp Wheeler, Macon, Ga.,
he was sent overseas, landing in North Africa, March 18, 1943. He participated
in the North African and Tunisian campaigns and his company paraded before
King George VI and Gen. Mark Clark.
He was wounded in action in Sicily and in November 1943 was sent to England
to teach a familiarization course in the use of the carbine rifle. Serving
in Co. B, 39th Infantry, 9th Division, with its battle cry, “Anything,
Anywhere Anytime for Nothing,” he landed in Normandy on D-Day plus
four. On July 11, while fighting in the break through at St. Lo he was
again wounded by shrapnel. Returning to action August 28, he joined his
outfit in Belgium Sept. 10. He was awarded two purple hearts, infantry
badge of merit, several other medals for expert marksmanship with various
types of firearms.
Surviving are his parents Mr. and Mrs. John Marlatt of Cincinnati and
two brothers, Charles of Dayton and Joe of Cincinnati
