ENOCH HARVEY MAPLE

Enoch Harvey Maple was born April [?], 1836 and died October 23, 1915, aged 70 years, 6 months and 18 days. He was the son of William Maple and Mary Nixon Maple and the last survivor of a family of nine children. He was married to Elizabeth Ann Hatfield February 27, 1862. They were blessed with three children, two daughters and a son, Cora now Mrs. Henry D. Shawhan, Wm. Chester Maple and Maimie Maple; the wife and mother, the three children, together with five grand children and one great grand child survive him.

He spent his boyhood days upon the farm and received his education in the district school. upon arrival at young manhood he was employed for a year or two by the C & M. V. R. R. Co., running between Morrow and Zanesville, Ohio.

In 1861, when the western gold fever was prevailing, he, in company with three young men of the neighborhood made the trip to Pikes Peak, by trail across the plains with “Prairie Schooner” and oxen, to seek their fortunes, returning however richer in experience than in gold.

He resided upon the farm owned by him at his decease for more than fifty years. He was a good neighbor and strictly honest and upright in his dealings with others. In no place was the happy jovial disposition which he possessed more manifest than in his own home where he was ever a kind and loving husband and father. During his last illness he was uncomplaining and patient, appreciating the attention and care so lovingly given him by his devoted wife and daughter.

He was a faithful and conscientious member of the Bethany Christian church for more than thirty years, although of late his failing health and difficulty of hearing prevented his regular attendance at church service. He was a daily reader of the Bible and a firm believer in its promises and the blessings that await those who follow its teachings and he is now enjoying the pleasures and joys of that place which Christ went to prepare for those who love and serve him.
