WILLIAM A. HOUGH
The funeral of Mr. Hough took place from the M.E. church,
Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock, Rev. Philip Trout,
assisted by Rev. Patton, of Spring Valley, conducted the services, which
were very impressive.
The church was filled with friends who came to pay the last tribute of
respect to one whom they had known as a MAN in the broadest sense of the
word. A large number of his fellow members in the Grange, attended in
a body. The M.E. choir rendered some of his favorite songs.
The memoir tells, better than words of our own, the value of the character
of the man who has gone to his reward.
Interment was in Miami Cemetery.
Memoir
William A. Hough was the son of Josiah and
Phebe Hough, was born near Lytle, Warren Co., O., April 24, 1854,
and died at his late home on 3rd Street, Waynesville, O., Dec. 15, 1904,
at the age of 50 yrs., 7 mos. And 21 days.
He was married to Euphemia Hartsock, Nov. 25th, 1875,
to their union was born 4 children, 2 sons and 2 daughters; Eddie
Leroy, Mertie, Frank
Laverne, and Mary Irma.
The one daughter, Mary, preceded the father to rest.
The other three children remain with the mother to mourn his departure.
He was converted to God, and united with the Mount Holly Methodist Episcopal
Church, twenty one years ago during the pastorate of the Rev. David
Whitmer and during all of these twenty-one years he has been
a loyal member of the church attending and greatly enjoying the means
of Grace. He was always ready to give to the support of the church and
the relief of the poor, and at the time of his death was one of the trustees
of the church. William A. Hough was an industrious and
honorable man, having been brought up on the farm, he was a farmer by
occupation, and by the labor of his own hands and the help of his family,
has earned for them a comfortable home.
Such lives as the life of our departed brother help to make the world
better. He will be greatly missed by his family, his old neighbors and
many friends. During his last sickness of several weeks he never complained
and while he had the desire to live for the sake of others, yet he said
the Lord knows best, His will be done. We lay the body of our brother
to rest, believing that, in the morning of the resurrection, we will see
him again.
