Charles L. Fitzwater (c1835-1903) Suicide of Charles Fitzwater Chas. Fitzwater, a cooper living in the Pleasant Plain neighborhood committed suicide by drowning himself in a well containing about fourteen feet of water, last Tuesday morning. His body was not found until Wednesday morning when his brother-in-law, Harper Stiles, who had gone to water his stock, discovered the hat of Fitzwater in the trough, and on further investigation he found his body in the well. It is supposed that worry over the recent death of his brother and the serious condition of his sister, superinduced temporary insanity and while in that condition he committed the deed. He was buried at Goshen on Friday. Mr. Fitzwater was an old soldier and was aged 64 years. Source: "Suicide of Charles
