William B. Eulass (1873-1933)

EULASS FUNERAL SERVICES TO BE THIS AFTERNOON
William B. Eulass Dies Monday After Lingering Illness
IN SERVICE 30 YEARS
Served In Regular Army And Marines From 1898 To 1928

Funeral services will be held at 2’o’clock this afternoon for William B. Eulass, 59, whose death occurred Monday evening following an illness of nearly four months. Services in charge of the Rev. J. C. McCoy and the local Masonic lodge will be held at the Oswald Funeral Home. Interment will be made in the Lebanon cemetery with the Lebanon Lodge of Elks in charge of the committal services.

Stricken a week before Christmas, Mr. Eulass declined rapidly and was confined to his bed throughout the period of his final illness. After undergoing treatment at the Miami Valley Hospital in January, Mr. Eulass returned to his rooms at the Lebanon House where his death occurred shortly after eight o’clock Monday evening.

A native of Warren county, Will Eulass spent his young manhood in Lebanon enlisting in the army during the Spanish War. He spent the next thirty years in the service returning to Lebanon in 1928 where he has since lived, making his home at the Lebanon House during a majority of this time. Of an unusually happy disposition, Mr. Eulass numbered his friends by the hundreds.

He was born December 28, 1873, on a farm near Ridgeville, a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Eulass. After attending the schools of that neighborhood he removed to Lebanon with his family in 1883 where he spent the next fifteen years. Before his first enlistment in the army in 1898 he served for several years in the Lebanon post office.

Following the Spanish War, Mr. Eulass re-enlisted in the army remaining in the service until 1928. He served in both the infantry and marine branches of the service and was on active duty in the Philippines and in Mexico. During the World War he was engaged in training recruits at the marine post at Quantico, Virginia. During the Spanish War he received a commission as second lieutenant and served in that capacity in the Philippine campaign. He resigned his commission at the expiration of this first enlistment and at the time he retired from the service five years ago was a quartermaster-sergeant in the Marine Corps.

Mr. Eulass married Miss Pearl Starry, of Lebanon, in November, 1930. Mrs. Eulass survives together with his mother, Mrs. C. H. Eulass, a brother, C. C. Eulass, and a sister, Mrs. B. H. Blair, all of Lebanon.

He was a member of Lebanon Lodge No. 26 F. & A. Masons and of Lebanon Lodge No. 422 B. P. O. E.

Pallbearers at the funeral this afternoon will be Robert Jones, H. P. Mulford, Dean E. Stanley, Will R. Lewis, James Stokes and Herschel Bunnell.
