Jasper Ayers (1836-1911)

OBITUARY
JASPER AYERS

Jasper Ayers was born February 14, 1836 near Piqua, Ohio, and died September 16, 1911 at his home in Roachester, Ohio, being at time of his death 75 years, seven months and two days of age. On November 9, 1856 he was united in marriage to Sarah Jane Cadwallader and to this union eight children were born seven of whom are still living to comfort and cheer the loving and grief-burdened mother and to smooth the pathway of her declining years, little Mary have gone before to await father’s coming beside the bereaved wife and children are twenty-seven grand children and eight great grand children to mourn the loss of a loving fathter.

The deceased was one of may who volunteered their service in response to their country’s call to arms during the rebellion of 61 to 65 he enlisted as a private in Co. E, 79 Regiment O. V. I. August 1, 1862 and was honorably discharged near Washington D. C., June 9, 1865 by reason of the close of the war thus giving two years ten months and eight days of his life in defense of his country. A few of the battles in which he participated were Resaca, Dallas, Kerresaw Mt, Peachtree Creek, March to the Sea and other minor affairs the effects from which he has suffered for a number of year and the past five weeks in which he has been continually confined to his bed his sufferings have been intense that of each day seemingly all he could bear. In all these years he has always been found a kind and obliging friend and neighbor ever ready to share his blessings with those less fortunate.
