Above is a photograph of Mr. And Mrs. Levi Griswold of Lerado, Ohio, who celebrate their golden wedding Thursday, October 9. Everything seemed to contribute to make this one of the most pleasant days ever witnessed by this venerable couple. The day was an unusually bright one and relatives from far and near assembled at the hospitable Griswold Home. The bride and groom of fifty years ago, proved to be delightful entertainers. They related happy incidents, which happened when they were youthful sweethearts. Mr. Griswold was born in Wayne Township, of Clermont County. April 29, 1829. His father Samuel Griswold was formerly of New York and his Mother, Elizabeth Hoffman, lived in New Jersey until she was eight years of age. Mrs. Griswold, nee Esther Granger, was born October 14, 1834, near Lerado. Her father came to Ohio from New York and her mother Catharine A. Glenn, from New Jersey. Mr. And Mrs. Levi Griswold were united in marriage October 9, 1852 at there home near Lerado, and for fifty years they have resided in this little village. An endless chain of friends is ever ready to praise them for being such charitable and hospitable neighbors. Six sons and two daughters were born to them and the angel of death has never entered this home. George W. is a thriving merchant of this place, Frank M. a prosperous farmer living near Lerado, Charles H. a lumber dealer at Somerset, Kentucky, W. Sherman a trusted employee of the Santa Fe Railroad and a resident of Guthrie Oklahoma, Albert W. head clerk at Ulrey Bros. big dry goods store of Georgetown, Ohio, Edward E. the baby, discharges his duties as manager of a large store in Lerado, Martha A. a wife of A. P. Kellum, Fidella wife of Joseph Louis a farmers of Lerado. Mr. And Mrs. Griswold have twenty six grandchildren living and two dead. |
