Whereas, the Ministers of the various Religious
denominations in said town have mutually agreed to recommend to their congregations
to observe Tuesday the 10th day of July instant, as a day of humiliation,
fasting and prayer, with special reference to the visitation in our State
and neighborhood of the grievous pestilence, Cholera; and to unite in earnest
supplications to Almighty God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, that the plague
may be stayed—that it enter not our village—and that its visitation
may be sanctified to the increase of the fear of God in our midst. And whereas
the ministers aforesaid have recommended to the Council of said town of
Lebanon, to issue their proclamation, recommending to the citizens of said
town the observance of said day. Therefore, I, Benjamin Blackburn, Mayor of the town of Lebanon, in Warren county, Ohio, in pursuance of the above recommendation, and the fearful increase and mortality of that grievous pestilence through the land, do hereby issue and publish this, my proclamation, recommending to all the citizens of the town of Lebanon and its vicinity, the observance of the said 10th day of July, instant, by suspending all their secular employments during the time proposed to be observed for Divine worship. BENJ. BLACKBURN, Mayor |
