The wounded soldiers at Deerfield, who were wounded at Pittsburg Landing, are improving slowly. We called to see Mr. Elias Drake, on Monday evening last. He had the calf of his leg shot away. The wound is doing well but he has taken the fever. Mr. Drake complains of the way they were brought from the Hospital at Savannah to Cincinnati: hundreds crowded together on deck, near the wheelhouse some groaning and some dying. He informs us that the trip on the boat was worse than the wound.

There were eighteen young men from Deerfield in the battle, of whom five were wounded and several taken prison. The names of the wounded are Elias Drake, Mr. Trump, Mr. Hay and two of David Roosa’s sons. [Alexander W. Roosa & Martin V. Roosa]
