ACCREDITED LIST
THROUGH HAWKINS’S BILL
State School Commissioners Recognize Work of Lebanon University and
Ranks It with State Normal Schools.
Lebanon University has been placed on the accredited list by State Commissioner of Schools John W. Zeller, and the institution now stands in the same class officially with such schools as Miami, Ohio University and other state normal schools.
Strong courses are in preparations leading to the degree of Bachelor of Pedagogy, which will require as much time to obtain as those of Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Art. Having completed this course the graduate is granted a certificated to teach and after having taught for 24 months is granted a state life certificate.
Upon learning the Professor Lester S. Ivins was in Columbus at work in the office of the Sate Board of Agriculture and in close touch with the school men of the State, President Poe and some members of the Board of Trustees asked Mr. Ivins to represent them in asking Commissioner Zeller just where this school would stand under the new Hawkins Bill. When the commissioner remembered the history of the school, saw the new courses of study and learned in what close touch the University is with the excellent system of public schools, he without hesitancy placed the stamp of approval upon Lebanon University.
The old Normal was originally for teachers and its teachers course has always been its strongest point. Thus privilege has long been sought by the trustees of the institution.
Friends of the school are delighted with this very creditable recognition of the merits of the course of study and declare that prospective teachers will flock to Lebanon as never before.
