Summary:
on 12 May 1838, Alfred Whitacre sold a lot in the town of Rochester to William Locke for $225. The 1/4 acre lot measured 4 poles on Main Street and 10 poles back.

This Indenture made the Twelfth day of May in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight hundred and thirty Eight, between Alfred Whitacre of the County of Warren and State of Ohio of the first part, and William Locke of the second part, witnessed to - that the said party of the first part paid for and in consideration of the sum of Two hundred and twenty five dollars lawful money of the United States to him in hand well and truly paid by the said party of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted, bargained, sold, conveyed and confirmed and by These Presents do grant, bargain, sell, convey and confirm unto said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns forever, all and Singular, the following described lot, tract or parcel of land wit: one lot in the Town of Rochester, county & State aforesaid known on the Recorded plat of said town by No. Thirty nine (39) being four poles on Main Street and ten poles back containing One quarter of an acre Together with all and Singular the hereditaments and appurtenances Thereunto belonging, or in anywise appertaining and the rents, issues and profits thereof and all the estate, right, title, interest, claims or demand Whatsoever, of the said party of the first part, either in law or equity, of, in and to the above bargained premises with the said hereditaments and appurtenances: To have and to hold the said premises, above particularly mentioned and described, to the Said party of the Second part his heirs and assigns forever. And the Said Alfred Whitacre so for his self and his heirs, executors and administrators, covenant and grant to and with the said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns, that the Said party of the first part is lawfully seized in fee of the aforesaid granted premises, that they are free from all incumbrance, that he have good right to sell and convey the Same to the said party of the second part aforesaid; and that he will and his heirs, executors and administrators too shall warrant and defend the same to the said party of the second part, his heirs or assigns forever, against all lawful demands of all persons.

In Witness whereof the said party of the first part have hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year above written.

On this Twelfth day of May in the year of our Lord, One Thousand Eight hundred and thirty Eight, Alfred Whitacre, the grantor named in the above deed of conveyance personally appeared before me, one of the Justices of the Peace, in and for said County and acknowledged the above indenture to be his Voluntary act and deed.
