April Term 1834

The State of Ohio
Warren County
Application for Naturalization

Personally appeared in open Court, Dennis Davis an applicant for naturalization, who on being duly sworn according to laws deposeth and saith that he is at this time forty one year of age, that he was born in the county of Yorkshire in the Kingdom of Great Britain from whence in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and ten, he being then a minor under the age of twenty one years to wit in his seventeenth year of age, he emigrated to the United States of America, that he now resides and has continued to reside in the United States from that time until the present moment, that he has resided for two years past within the county of Warren in the State of Ohio. And the said Dennis Davis further saith that during the time he has resided in the United States as aforesaid he has been attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same; and that it has been his bona fide intention for more than three years past, and it is now his bona fide intention to become a citizen of the United States; and he further saith upon his solemn oath; that he will support the Constitution of the United States; and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty whatever and particularly he renounces all allegiances and fidelity to his Majesty William the IV King of Great Britain, Ireland Scotland &c. in whose dominions he was heretofore a subject. And the said Dennis Davis also saith that he has never borne any hereditary title or been of any of the orders of nobility in any country whatever.

Personally appeared in open Court, James Boyd who on being sworn as the law directs, deposeth and saith that he was acquainted with Dennis Davis the within named applicant for naturalization about ten years ago and from that time to the present he believes the said Dennis has been a resident of the Unites States, that he believes he has resided within the County of Warren in the State of Ohio for two years past and that for more than three years past it has been the bona fide intention of the said Dennis Davis to become a citizen of the United States; and affiant further states that during all the time which he has known said Dennis Davis he knows nothing to the contrary but that he has behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same; & further affiant saith not.

Personally appeared in open court Alexander Crawford who on being duly sworn, saith that he has been acquainted with the within named Dennis Davis, for about two year past, and that during all that time the said Dennis has been residing in the County of Warren in the State of Ohio, and has behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same, & further saith not.
