John Clinton Application for Naturalization October 27, 1828

State of Ohio, Court of Common Pleas of the Term of October in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred and Twenty Eight.

Personally appeared in open court on this 27th day of October in the year aforesaid John Clinton of the county and state aforesaid who being sworn saith that about thirty six years ago, as near as this deponent can ascertain he emigrated from Ireland with his fathers family to these United States and that for the last twenty years he has generally resided in this county (Warren) And this deponent further declares that he will support the constitution of the United States and that he doth absolutely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity, to the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland or any other prince potentate state or sovereignty whatever except the United Stated and that his intention is still to remain as it has always been his intention, a citizen of the Unites States and further this deponent saith not.

Also at the same time personally appeared in open Court Michael H. Johnson of said county of Warren who being sworn saith that he has for about fifteen years past been acquainted with the above named deponent, and that he lived in Warren County Ohio except a short time in an adjoining county. The said John Clinton, hath during that time behaved as a man of good moral character attached to the constitution of the United States and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same and further saith not.

Severally sworn to & subscribed in open court the 27th Octr 1828

Also at the same time, personally appeared in open Court Thomas Ireland of this county, who being sworn saith that he has been acquainted with the above named deponent John Clinton from about the year eighteen hundred and twenty one since that he the said John Clinton during that time has sustained a good moral character, as far as this deponent hath ever heard and that for the last five years and longer the said John Clinton hath resided in Hamilton Township Warren County Ohio and further saith not.
