Rossburg Cemetery is a inactive, landlocked cemetery, surrounded by private property.that is located [mostly] on the south side of 1st Creek a little west of the Little Run Rivulet. There is no indication of a cemetery at this location on the 1856 Warren County Wall map but later maps from 1867 to 1932 all show the approximate location of a cemetery at this location. It is thought to be a public burying ground as none of the maps show any churches in the immediate vicinity of the cemetery.

From Bobbi Tindle, (proofreading by her daughter, Warren County Genealogical Society member Nicole Tindle)
"Research on this cemetery was done by Ron and Bobbi Tindle on May 6, 2006. Bobbi’s family has lived in the area of this cemetery since the 1950’s. Little is known to her family about the history of the cemetery. Her mother, Judith A. (Smith) Booher still lives in the area. Judith was told that the people were buried in that location due to having died of the plague. Since the first known burial occurred in 1833 and the last in 1884, I doubt that to be true information. It is possible that maybe 1 or several people buried there did die of the plague but doubtful that all of them did. The land now owned by Judith was once owned by her step grandfather, Phillip Enz who inherited the land from his father, Jacob Enz. That is the family that probably would have known more about the history.

"This cemetery is in very poor shape. I believe that the residents who live closest to the cemetery are the ones mowing it once in a while but nothing more is being done. At one time, some neighborhood kids had gone into the cemetery and broke many of the stones. I also heard that some of them were even thrown over the hill toward the creek. I would bet that quite a few of the stones are no longer located in the correct places. They have been moved."

Location:

  • Starting at the private property located at 8226 Morrow-Rossburg Road (County Road 27), opposite Morgan's Run Drive, this landlocked. cemetery is about 1200 feet north northeast (across private property) to the south side of First Creek a little west of the Little Run Rivulet.
  • Cemetery #12255 in "Ohio Cemeteries 1803-2003" by the Ohio Genealogical Society
  • Coordinates: 39° 18' 48"N, 84° 07' 20"W
  • Virginia Military District Survey #3795
  • From Bobbi Tindle
In the map to the left (courtesy of www.epodunk.com) you can see what looks like a white square to the left of the arrow pointing to the cemetery. This white square indicates the house that is there now before it was completed. You can also tell where the main road is and where the private drive for that house is. The private drive looks just a little wider
