Amos Compton died 14th of 9 Mo 1824 [see comments below] aged 51 years 2 months 5 days [worn stone - date & age from Warren County Cemetery Records Volume 7] Linda Bunnell 5 Dec 2009 email: "I think there may be an error regarding Amos Compton, son of Samuel and Elizabeth, died 9-14-1824...I think it should be 1821...According to Hinshaw, Amos was born 7-9-1770...using the 1824 death year puts his birth year at 1773...It really could be construed as either a 1 or a 4...but since the research has already been done and we already have a birth date. P.S. - Amos married Rebekah Millhouse on 1792,12,13 - Cane Creek MM South Carolina - Hinshaw Vol 1, page 1060 {Minutes & Marriage Records}" |

Charity Cook died 13 of 11 Mo. 1822 aged 76 years 11 months 11 days Warren County Cemetery Records Volume 7 has: "d. 13 of 11th mo, 1832; wife of Isaac and dau. of Thomas & Rachel Lewis which is thought to be incorrect - see below" Jean LaGue of Westerville, Ohio, provides the following commentary: Thu, Mar 27, 2008 I believe that my husband's ancestor, Charity Cook is buried there d 1822. She & her husband Isaac had transferred to Silver Crk IN (there is an Isaac Cook who died in 1820 on your list for CCrk--not sure if this is him, or someone else). Charity was a Quaker minister, and traveled extensively throughout her life.
Silver Creek MM Union Co, IN Yet Caesar's Creek MM also records her death: In Mar 1820, Charity was granted a certificate
to visit all the subordinate meetings in New Garden MM, Indiana Thu, Mar 27, 2008 Sun, Mar 30, 2008 1813, 9, 30 (Cook) Isaac, s Thomas & Mary, Clinton Co., O., d 1820, 11, 13 ae 77 bur Caesar's Creek; m Charity Lewis, dt Thomas & Rachel, Clinton Co., O., d 1822, 11,13 ae 77 bur Caesar's Creek. I have no doubt that some Isaac Cook married
Charity Lewis on that date, but it was not the Isaac who died in
1820, nor the Charity Wright Cook who died in 1822 "One of the complications which the genealogist or biographer meets in the study of Isaac & Charity while they were at Caesar's Creek Monthly Meeting is the duplication of the names, "Isaac" and "Charity Cook," in the membership of the Caesar's Creek MM. While they were there, at least six Friends of that meeting, ranging in age from childhood to advanced years, named "Isaac Cook" were members of that meeting. For a few years, two married couples with the identical names of "Isaac and Charity Cook" were members of the meeting...We find that the younger Isaac was a nephew of the older and his wife Charity was a granddaughter of the older Isaac. The younger Charity may be designated as Charity Lewis Cook and the older as Charity Wright Cook... (grand daughter & grandmother) 17 Sep 2013 commentary by David Mills of Red Lion, Ohio I'm writing you about Charity Cook wife of Isaac Cook, both bur in Creasers Creek Friend Burial Ground. I have been trying to confirm the location of Isaac and Charity (the Isaac, that is the son of Thomas Cook and Mary Mills, my line) for some time. In order to accomplish this, one must research all of the Isaac's and Charity's....and there are many, many of them. I found a lot of research notes on Charity Wright Cook. All is correct information. But was not matched with the proper people, Isaac and Charity. Several things are clear:
I'm not requesting you to make any changes, I just wanted to share the research that I had done in confirming Thomas Cook (b. 1751) and Mary Mills (b. 1749) and their descendants . |
